Music around the World: Blue Six (Jay Denes)
If you’ve been around me you’ll know that I’m especially attracted to niche, original music, outside the mainstream. Chill House for me falls into this category, and I was introduced to this genre back in 2002 by listening to this artist, Blue Six aka Jay Denes. I’ve been a loyal fan of Jay’s music and independent hustle for many years. His signature style, with the edgy funky baselines, ambient piano, guitar picks and relaxed vibe are unmistakable. Play a Jay Dene produced track anywhere, and I personally would recognize it in a heartbeat. For me personally as a music production junkie, that is the sign of a good producer; having your own unique sound. There are very few producers that leave that impression with me: Evil Needle, Battlecat, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, Pharrel, Dilla are a few heavyweights in my top list, and I would comfortably slide Jay Denes in there for the Downtempo/chill house/dance genres.
