What can I say about Chet Baker. Hands down one of my favorite Jazz musicians of all time; a master trumpeter with a unique, flat voice that in some respects brings to mind the quiet uniqueness in Sade Adu’s voice. Chet Baker was most prominent in the 1950s, when he was affectionately known in certain circles as the “Great White Hope” of Jazz trumpeters. For many years he struggled with a heavy heroin addiction, which unfortunately took his life in 1988.

Enjoy the below live performance of Chet performing My Funny Valentine, at a concert in Tokyo, June 1987, approximately 11 months before his death.
