Music around the World: Evil Needle
If you asked me to name my top 10 underground hip hop and lounge producers of all time, this gentleman would fit into that roster. I have been following Evil Needle’s music for a few years now, and there are very few producers in today’s era that have their own unmistakable, trademark sounds. His beats are melodic and groovy; a perfect combination of ambient tones and deep, laid back bass beats. Inspired by underground Hip Hop legends like the Pharcyde, Mr. Lif,and the Wu Tang Clan, this French-German producer has put his stamp on the ambient-downtempo genre through his music that brings back the feel good nature of Hip Hop from the late 80s and 90s meshed with dreamy grooves that you will find on any Café Del Mar, Buddha Bar or Majestic Casual collection. To date Evil Needle has 7 albums to his credit, and I personally rank him talent wise in the same category with other legendary underground producers like Nujabes (RIP) and J Dilla (RIP). His beats are in steady rotation on my headphones as I walk and in my car as I drive, and I’m a fan for life.
