Pete Rock is hands down a legend in the Hip Hop industry. If you are a true Hip Hop head and especially if you are a fan of east coast Hip Hop like I am, Pete Rock’s name should not be unfamiliar. Born in the Bronx (NY) and raised in Mount Vernon, this musical maestro has been the brains fueling many hit-makers in the Hip Hop, R&B and Pop industries. He’s worked with the likes of Biggie Smalls, Nas, Public Enemy, Mary J. Blige, TLC, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Lady Gaga and many names in the underground rap scene. His sound is unmistakable, and his unique blend of Jazz, Soul and head bumping bass lines is what made music enthusiasts like myself become loyal fans. His rap game is not bad either, and he’s shared the mic with MCs like Big Pun, Joelle Ortiz, Q-Tip and underground heavy hitters like CL Smooth, INI, Papoose and Little Brother. Enjoy the below old school classic (1996), “Fakin Jax” produced by Pete Rock (he also raps in it) and featuring past members of Pete Rock’s ‘Soul Brother Records’ (once an imprint under Elektra). Enjoy!
